Class
The subject was brought up in class and it made me think about how people decide what they want to do with their life. In the 11th grade, my friends and I have to think a lot about the future, and give a lot of thought to our selectable subjects in school, since it is the basis of our future profession. I thought about myself, and the way I acted to get myself a nice job. That is not a profession, but my current job is something I might turn into a big hobby, or maybe even a career.
Before the beginning of the 9th grade, I bought a hand-held computer to make it easier for me to write in class and organize my schoolwork. I was a big “Palm” fan for two years before I bought the computer. Being excited about all the options this device gave me, I started looking for user-groups over the Internet. I found an Israeli-users-group called Palmi, and after reading a lot, I sent a single article I wrote myself to the site’s editor. My article was published, and more of my articles were sent to the website editor. A couple of weeks later the editor wanted to talk to me and sent me an email with his ICQ number. I talked to him for a while, somehow he got the impression I was over 30 years old. He got me into the site’s crew, which held about 30 people in it at the time. Half a year later the editor of the site decided to quit, and I took his place. For a year I was the manager of Palmi, and than the owner opened four more websites regarding gadgets, PC computers, cellular phones and digital cameras.
Every site had its own crew and manager. I was, on the other hand, unable to keep running Palmi. I was tiered and I let the owner know that I’m leaving the team with a full heart. He said that it’s all right, and two days later he asked me to come back, and be the Vice-President of the entire team. That means, actually, that I don’t do anything, and I have to write only if I get something in return (a product, application, etc.), or if he calls me to write about an important scoop.
I agreed, and that’s my position now. I’ve written more than 200 articles and review, and translated over 400 news articles from American and British online magazines. This task wasn’t easy, but many opportunities fell on me, I was simply in the right place at the right time, and I believe that sort of luck, combined with huge motivation, can give a person the career of his dreams.
No one can really know why I like handheld computers and a friend of mine likes history. Interest is something that we can’t really put our finger on. Many subjects our being presented to us by society: friends, family, teachers, TV, newspapers, Internet and so. Interests are simply things that we feel that we can get the most out of, if we invest some time in it.
Most of the people I know are interested in many things, but the real decision is what our main interest is. This decision most of the time, is guided by society. We can’t simply decide what we want to do and go this way (maybe some of us can, but most of the others don’t have the necessary resources, like money), we have to choose and to compromise on what society gives us. For example: I like handheld computers, but there isn’t such a profession available for me at school. So I’ve chosen the closest subject possible – Information Technology.
In conclusion: our main Interest is a combination of what we find interesting and what exterior components give us the ability to work on.
After you know what your final destination is, you have to make some research with people that previously went through this path, and realize what you will have to do in order to accomplish your destination. I believe that the safest way to reach your final goal is setting mini tasks and doing the best you can to reach those goals. If the way is well based, the entire process will be as clean and professional as possible.
The main key to go in one direction or another is the motivation. If we’re motivated to go in a certain way, a small glitch won’t trip us, and the way is always available.
If our destination is high, the way to it will be hard, and it might sometime make a person think again about his basic interest. The hard way can sometimes be easy, if we know in which point of view to look at it.
The final destination is usually the dream of giving less and getting more. If we’re really into a subject, it will be rewording enough to keep us working.
After we know what lies ahead of us, the biggest step is actually doing the best we can and find the right way to do things. Our way must be clear, and it is kept that way if our motivation is big. I believe that the hardest things can be easy if you know how to look at them.
Chances: Chances and opportunities, I believe, are not something we control, but if we give all we’ve got in a certain subject, opportunities will come. Those chances are actually things we can take or pass, and it’s best giving those things a lot of thought before we make our decision.
The text above is not taken from any source. Those are simply my opinions form my own experience, which is not very big, I’m afraid. I simply wrote what I thought and I think I have a lot to learn in this subject. Running a handhelds website is not writing a good Bagrut, getting into university, and starting a career.
So, to be honest, I don’t know a lot, but in this work I wrote what I know. The way people decide what they would like to do in their lives is a fascinating subject, but in the other hand, computers and psychology are my preferred favorites.
